Spa Hunting Woes

So I'm currently on the hunt for a second part time or full time job. And ideally I'd like to work as an Esthetician in a Spa or salon or as a makeup artist in that setting. I've been all over the place looking for spas and salons, going to interviews, searching the internet, and trying to find a great Spa that will fit for me. It's no easy task finding the right place to work as an Esthetician. While there is no such thing as a perfect Spa (in most cases I have met people who say they work at a perfect Spa...where is that?!!) I refuse to settle for less just because.  So this morning I had an interview at a great Spa literally down the street from where I live. I can't say how excited/incredibly nervous I was to go, but I knew this was going to be a good experience.... hopefully..... actually I ended up leaving the interview a lot more confused and honestly a little stressed about my decision on whether to take the position or not . There's a list of pros about this Spa as well as a list of cons about it as well. So the search still continues. I need the perfect match for my Sephora job. Two places I work and get the best out of both.   If not a Esthetician position, then definitely something in the beauty industry. ...... not to mention I'm currently preparing for my state boards... oh gosh... lets just hope that by the end of the week I don't end up looking like this...

Until next time loves!

One Crazzzy Summer!

It's been weeks since I last posted and I'm so sad about it. Honestly I've been constantly thinking about my blog and how I miss posting.

It has been a CRAZY summer. I've been so busy with work and trying to find a second job and trying to figure out what I will do the next year or so (school wise) that I kind of consumed myself in that and didn't leave much time for posting even though I have a list of things to post haha. But now I'm coming back so yaya!!!!   I just have to get everything organized again...

I'll be back loves!

PS: The Clarisonic!! ;P

Professional quality skincare....

I'm about to make a major purchase on a skincare product today that I am SUPER excited about!!

But I'm not telling what it is yet until I get it!!!! So say tuned!!!

It's probably one of the most expensive skincare products I've purchased thus far and it's something I used while giving facials.

Oh what could it be?

You'll see. ;)

Oh these Summer days....

In the summer time most people love to show a little more skin. We also like to make sure our skin looks flawless and perfect, especially our face. But a lot of times summer weather can lead to lots of sun damage,  extra oiliness, and sweat clogging our pores. That's why it's always imperative, year round, to have a healthy skincare regimen. I recently picked up a little set of skincare products by the wonderful Ole Henrkisen. While I wasn't too familiar with his line, I'm SO glad I gave it a test run.

                                          The three little wonders set

Comes with:

Truth Serum collagen booster

Invigorating night gel & Sheer transformation

Ole Henriksens line speaks to all skin types and is made with natures most active ingredients. He's got award winning products and lots of people swear by his line. The number one thing I love about his line is the fact that he is very serious about his ingredients. And at the end of the day, that's what it's all about!

The Truth serum:
Serums are some of my favorite products. Mainly because serums tend to be a lot more potent and strong so they tend to really do their job and sometimes(and I mean sometimes) work a little faster.
This serum is pure Vitamin C and we all know how much I Love Vita C!
It helps brighten, tighten, and lighten!! haha! And it's a free radical fighter. Putting this on after a freshly washed face feels amazing. Plus it smells delish!
Helps with discoloration and is great to reduce the appearance of aging amongst many other things.

Invigorating night gel:
I suffer from hyperpigmentation and I needed a treatment to help with that. This little bottle should do the trick. It's an oil-free gel that helps minimize the appearance of fine lines, pigmentation and breakouts with AHA's(Alpha Hydroxy Acids)!! Oh yea!!

Sheer transformation creme:
I end my nightly treatment with this one. After applying my serum and gel, I put this on and my skin feels like silk. It's oil-free cream rich with vitamin C, licorice root(great for pigmentation), and pea extract.

You can also use these products for your morning treatment as well.

You can purchase Ole Henriksen products at Sephora stores or online

This products was $35 at Sephora inside JCP

If you've never heard of Ole Henrikson I advise you to go to your nearest Sephora and ask a consultant about the line or any brands. And if you are still a little skeptical, ask for a skincare consultation or a sample!

What skincare products are you using now that are working for you?

Mini Sephora Haul

 Hello My Lovely Followers!!!

It's been a few days since I last posted. I've been working so I've been a bit busy. Things at Sephora are going well. I'm loving working there it's so much fun to help clients find what they need in skincare and makeup. The best part is the Express Services. I could just do that all day! It's really rewarding to help people with skincare concerns and makeup concerns! Choosing a color eyeshadow or a cleanser was scary to most of the clients that were coming in the past couple of days. But they walked out of Sephora with product in hand knowing how to use it.

I've been keeping note of the clients I've had come into Sephora for help. I'm paying attention to the most common concerns and questions I get asked about skincare and makeup and keeping record so that I can post about things people need to know. I'm excited!!!

But for now I want to talk about my mini Sephora Haul!!! First one!!

Sephora Waterproof eye makeup remover
We used this a ton during training. It's awesome! The best makeup remover I've tried( see ya later avon makeup remover!!) takes off any and every kind of makeup from your toughest waterproof makeup to intense lips stains. Good for sensitive eyes, lense wearers, and has ingredients like olive extract that help strengthen lashes. The only downfall it's a tiny bit oily. Oily skin types may not appreciate that but it's still a fantastic remover. I'd still recommend this to everyone!

Tip: After saturating tissue or towel with remover, press it on your eye or lip for a few seconds then wipe off.  Make sure to shake before use for full results.

Sephora Instant moisture kit
I was in need of a new moistuizer since I finished my Triple Emulsion Benefit one, and since I'm on the hunt for the perfect moisturizer I wanted to start out with Sephora.
In this kit:
Supreme cleansing foam- light, soft, foamy
Instant depuffing roll-on gel- cool and brightening
Instant moisturizer- mega moisture + it has Vitamin C in it!!

This is a great introductory to Sephora skincare. I was originally going to buy the Instant moisturizer alone since it's a best seller and it's awesome. But I decided why not try a 3 in 1 deal.  I'm absolutely obsessed with the roll-on eye gel. It's genius. Plus it addresses dark circles too which is my concern.

ready....set... STAY!! Eye Trio by Benefit
I had to get my hands on the Erase Paste by Benefit. I decided to get this kit as well because.. well I love kits!
Kit includes:
Stay Don't Stray eyeshadow&concealer primer
Erase Paste concealer in medium
Creaseless cream shadow/liner in birthday suit (hehe i like that name)

I have to say this again. I am a hard core Urban Decay primer potion fan. It's going to take A LOT for me to change my primer because Urban Decay quite honestly is it. But of course I always give every product a chance.  Stay Don't Stray didn't make the cut for me. Urban Decay primers are still untouchable.
Birthday suit is a beautiful shear cream shadow it's a great base to start you off.

Sephora Collection Nano liners

Left is forest green
Right is wild spirit
Colored liners are always fun and I love to add them on to any eye look to create some spunk!
These are rich with color and glide on smooth.
$5 each

Sephora Collection long lasting liner
Another item I had to get my hands on: Liquid liner!
Color: Fancy Blue
I've been eyein this baby since before we opened.
Now I finally got my hands on it! I'll be posting a special eyeshadow tutorial with this one. Stay tuned.
(these liners come in so many beautiful colors!)

Sephora Collection cream lip stain
I ❤ this product.

I really needed a good lip stain and this did exactly what I wanted.
It's a dread when your lipstick wears off during the day. I hate it! And I know you hate it too!
It's a lip gloss, cream consistency and dries matte. After dried it's stayin there!
All you have to do is put clear gloss or lip balm over it and your set. No retouching. Just make sure you blot after your first application and exfoliate those lips before hand!!!!
Color: Made In Italy

Tip: Worried about how you'll get this off? No problem! Sephora Waterproof makeup remover will do the trick!

There's my mini Sephora haul. It'a actually my first haul post!

And as always of course
You can purchase these products exclusively at Sephora

Who's Jem?

So I've noticed that when I tell people about my blog they ask me "Why Jem?" and then I go into my whole story behind the name Jem and why the name of my blog is called Makeup By Jem. It got me thinking about doing a post about myself so people know a little more about me.  I'm also tagging vintage makeup on this one since I read her post on 10 facts about her and I think it's fun!! I love to visit other blogs and see posts like these on them it gives us a chance to get to know the blogger behind them blog.

So here's mine:

1.) "Why Makeup By Jem? "  -  Jem is me. I was named after a cartoon character. Back in 1985 there was this cartoon called "JEM" and she was a normal everyday girl but she had an alter ego, a famous rock star singer which was her secret identity . When she was her everyday self she went by the name of Jerrica Benton and when she was her rock star self she went by Jem.  As a kid growing up I was always a little confused about my name since everyone always asked me about it and they'd always butcher the hell out of it too. So many times I've been called Jessica or Jennifer no lie!! But I really love my name now and my nick name Jem. I think it's awesome to have a different name it makes you unique. Plus I love telling people the meaning behind my name.

2.) When life kind of imitates art - My whole life I've always wanted to be a singer. I LOVE music. But unfortunately I'm very shy about it so I only sing when no one is around or when they can't hear:P Most people don't know that about me. Music is essential in my life.

3.) I LOVE LOVE LOVE Chocolate!! There has never been a day where I don't want chocolate.

4.) I'm a writer. I've written tons of poems and a few stories. I have notebooks upon notebooks of things I've written.  From everyday happenings to poems. I still write occasionally.

5.) I break into song and dance...a lot. Most recently during my Sephora training I started dancing to a song I had in my head, not like hard core dancing more like boppin around because of course I'm in a professional setting, I had some strange looks after that LOL. hhaa!! Sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing it either.

6.) I want to live in NYC... but recently that's kind of changed.. I think I might be looking into a state that has more of a tropical climate. We'll see.

7.) Makeup a career?- I never thought I could do makeup as a career. I've messed with makeup since I was 11 but I never set out to be a makeup artist until I was 20 years old. The thought came into my head but I didn't start pursuing it until I was 22 . I'm in love.

8.) I'm Latina- Very proud of my heritage, I stand by that. I grew up in a culture filled family. I love being Puerto Rican

9.) I want to go to the Makeup Designory school-  I'm planning on going to this school. It looks incredible. The question is.. NYC or California? ;)

10.) I'm obsessed with Purple!!!! You should see my room. All walls are purple. My phone is purple, my computer is purple, and even my car is a really dark dark purple. I swear that wasn't on purpose though haha!!

11.) I have been dying to watch Vampire Diaries!!! It looks really good. Had no interest in it before but it seems that everyone is talking about it. One day LOL.

Those are some facts about me but certainly not all!!

And I leave you with a pic of the current love of my life:

This is Nala.
She's 7 years old.
I swear she's not dead that's just how she likes to sleep from time to time
She's my fur ball of joy!!!
(she's not being very lady like in this pic;)

Bye loves!!

Boscia cleansers & Chocolate dreams

Happy Sunday everyone!!!!

Today is a beautiful sunny day where I live! I love summer and nice warm weather! Gets me all excited for those summer events!!!

Anyway , I have pretty normal skin but during the winter it tends to get really dry and during the summer it's normal. But lately my skin has kind of been dry (also due to the fact that I can't make up my mind on what moisturizer I should try next I have yet to find a moisturizer I really love... I have issues committing.. :P) and I love me some milky cleansers because they tend to give me even more moisture. I was recently given a boscia cleanser through work that I'm sooo excited to tell you about.

I've never tried any boscia products but I've heard lots about it and learning more about the products of boscia at work really got my interest, so I was very eager to try this Soothing Cleansing Cream when we were given it. But before I tell you about the cleanser I have to tell you a little history behind this brand!  Boscia was created by Mr. Kenji Ikemori who wanted to create skincare products that were preservative free and contained no irritating ingredients because his wife suffered from constant skin irritation. The boscia brand is  100% free of preservatives, artificial color, and fragrance. All the products are created in a "clean room" so no human contact is ever made, the factory is all machine operated, and all boscia products contain Jojoba leaf and Willoherb which help with inflammation. It's all alcohol free and pH balanced as well. I thought it was so sweet that this man made a line especially for his wife...awww.

This soothing cleansing cream is so soft, gentle, awesome for taking off makeup, and leaves my skin feeling super soft like as silk. I'm in love again!! Knowing what it's made of and where it comes from gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside every time I wash my face with it haha. I'm definitely a new boscia fan and as an Esthetician, will recommend this to a lot of people.

You can purchase boscia products at any Sephora inside JCpenney, Sephora, or Ulta stores.

One more thing I have to share!!!

I went to the super market yesturday and wanted dessert and I found this......

It's called The Mochachino Cup.....
This is a chocolate lovers dream!!!!

I took one look at it knew it had to be mine!!
One of my favorite movies is Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory and one of my favorite scenes is when Willy Wonka it's that eatable flower that looks like a cup... I thought of that when I was eating this heehehehe.

The inside of the chocolate cup was actually chocolate cake and mocha mousse... it was SO FREAKIN DELICIOUS....

I actually dreamt about it..:P

till next time my loves!

Sephora training is officially over

Sephora inside Jcpenney training is officially over. It was great, it was long, and it was a lot of product knowledge haha. Even though I feel pretty good about all the products we've learned inside Sephora it's definitely going to take me a while to learn every single one especially since we were only shown the top sellers of each brand. But I'm in loooove with so many products I made a list of everything I want and I don't even want to think about how much it will all total to at the end. It will be so worth it though. I've never been through such detailed training for a job before in my life so this was definitely a very unique experience. I've got a few days off which I'm going to enjoy to the fullest and then we have our "soft opening" which I'm guessing is like a mock grand opening except we don't advertise that we're dropping the tarps and open to the public, it's just whoever comes by and walks in. Then the following week will be our grand opening. I must admit I am a little nervous to be on the "stage" which is I believe what we call it when we are on the selling floor. I'm excited to educate clients about makeup and skincare ( it's why I have a blog too haha). The one thing I'm most nervous about is the register. We had somewhat of register training but I definitely need more. Once I get that down I'm good to go. It's just dealing with peoples money, like food, makes me nervous not going to lie. But all in all I'm so excited to be part of the Sephora team and I'm excited for the future. And of course, I'll be sharing anything I purchase, any special events in Sephora and everything else in between. I still shop other places and go other places and I'm still a drugstore junkie so we'll be getting the best of both worlds on this blog. And who knows maybe there will be an opportunity for me to grow in Sephora....  hey you never know ;)

Now that things are settling down with work... I need to think about school again. I want to go back to more than one school. The trick is that one school is here where I live now and the other is in another city.. oh geez

Like I always say, I never stop dreaming. Never.

Florida Goodies!!

My brother and his wife (my sister in law) went on a trip to Orlando Florida for their one year wedding anniversary and brought back goodies!!(aw how sweet!) anyway I wanted to share what I got

Got a cute pair of purple flower studs from forever 21 super cute!!!
A Wizarding World of Harry Potter key chain!!!! So cool!!!!
And a nice smooth Ultra Balm from Lush!!!!!

I love Lush. Nothing beats all natural ingredients I love this. I use it mostly on my lips but you can use it on all your bits as it says lol:P
The back of the key chain. This just shoes the authenticity of it.. exclusive!

I got one more thing from them but I can't make a post on it yet because I'm not done reading it. It's a book by Thalia it's called "Thalia:Belleza!! Lessons in Lipgloss and Happiness"

Thalia used to be one of my idols when I was a kid and my Sister-in-law saw this book and got it for me!! So excited!!!
Thalia released it back in 2007 and I never knew about it.
When I'm done I'll make a special post about it:)

But until then, it's back to training tomorrow.

Goodnight my loves!

PS: Thalia is a Latin triple threat;)

Sephora training update!!

Oh how I miss blogging. I'm constantly thinking about it when I'm at work and how I want to blog about every single thing that is happening in my Sephora training haha. I only have 3 more days left of science of sephora brand training and we are done!!! To say this process was long is a major understatement to say the least!!! But I'm really loving it. Today we finshed our "Color" express service training which consists of applying an everyday eye look and cheek&lip application. That was really fun! We had partners and we played product consultant and client. The scariest part was having to come into work with no makeup on for 3 days!!!! AAAAAAHHHH!! Not a comfortable thing for me I secretly wanted to hide behind everyone but I think I played it off pretty well ;P. Being someone who has experience with makeup already and is an esthetician, this training was very much a review for me and a way to teach me how to teach others how to apply their makeup from a retail prospective. Which honestly is what I need to work on.  I will be more than ok selling skin care, and makeup, haircare, and fragrance but I need to work on telling my client what I'm doing step by literal step and at the same time selling what I'm putting on them and what I'm using.. It's different in person rather than blogging it. I know over time as I get used to using allllll of these amazing products it'll be like cake to me. I'm used to selling my skill rather than the product. I gotta tell you though it was really hard for me to hold back during the makeup portions of the training, I so wanted to do a crazy awesome smokey eye with brillant colors, even a cat eye winged out liner, or a pin up look with awesome vibrant red lips. Or even something wild, fun, and creative but I have to play by the rules and do what I am told plus we are learning how to teach those who are not makeup savvy and I can understand that makeup can be an overwhelming topic.... all in due time all in due time;)

Today was the end of color and on to brand training. We learned more about Benefit, Buxom, Korres, Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford, and Ojon.  We got to play with their products, feel different textures, smell them, try it on, it was wonderful!! Finally getting to try all the amazing products that I could never afford haha! I own a few Sephora products and have some in my kit,  honestly it's expensive. But it's worth every freakin penny!!  I am IN LOVE with all these lines! There is something in evey line that has something I want I even made a list of everything I want from every brand we went over today . It's awesome getting an in depth look at these brands and what's really behind them you have even more of an understanding. I'm going to be so broke it's not even funny!! But it's great because I can share with you all the greats, the goods, and the not so greats. Totally excited!!

Finally got my very first piece of gratis!!! and here it is!

It's the Rounded Powder Brush # 49 from the Sephora Proffessionnel collection

I Love Love Love it!!!
Super soft and packs on that powder leaving me a flawless finish... I'm in love what more can I say.

More details later.

You can purchase this brush exclusively at Sephora inside JCpenney stores or freestanding Sephora stores for $34.

Later Loves

ps: the red sticker on the brush indicates that it is a gratis item

Day 3 of Sephora brand training

Sephora Training update:

Sephora Beauty Educators flew in from California to train us about the Science Of Sephora. Really what each day is consisting of is their system to selling products to clients and how to do so. They call it the We Care + program and it's their approach to satisfying the client with their skincare, color(makeup), fragrance needs. It's kind of been a little crazy for me because I just got out of Esthetics school where I was so trained on their system of how to sell beauty products and I just jumped into a whole other philosophy of selling beauty products with Sephora so it's a huge transition. But it's all good because I'm incorporating all that I know already and I am learning so I can create my own system. My goal right now is learning Sephoras selling approach, it's a bit of a challenge but not really once you get familiar with it. Today they went through skin types, concerns, and ingredients which was like a big huge 8 hour long review for me, it's ok keeps it fresh in my mind come my state board exam I have to take next month haha. And then at the end of the day we did some role playing so I played product consultant and another played client and visa versa. The first couple of days were a little scary because we had to role play in front of everyone and I hate doing anything I'm not comfortable with in front of people like that. Give me a client and some makeup or skincare one on one and I'll be fine but to do a skit infront of people is scary to me! So I was a little uncomfortable with that and it's unrealistic I just kept telling myself that haha. But I'm learning and that's what it's all about at the end of the day....... sooo I hear that we're  suppose to get some products to take home.. it hasn't happened yet but we are all anxious to get it!! Me and my team are on the edge of our seats waiting for some gratis and I'll be sure to share with you guys what it is when I get it.  Hope all is well in the world!! I'll be back!!

Not enough time to blog these days but this is my last full week of training!!

S.O.S Training

I've had a few days off since my second week of Sephora inside JCpenney training and things are going good. Tomorrow starts the most exciting portion of the Sephora training. The Science Of Sephora. This includes Sephora Beauty Educators flying in from California to train us about the philosophy behind Sephora, it's products, makeup application, skincare consulting, and of course, costumer service or I think it's called the "We Care" program I'll get back to you on that. As of tomorrow, it's another 8 days straight of this stuff 9am to 6pm. I'm excited, a little anxious, and a little nervous. But I'm going with a blank mind pretending I know nothing about makeup or skincare so that I can absorb all the information they give us and apply it to what I know and my technique in the end. I'm so excited to see what they will teach us.  We will see how it all pans out. And as always I'll let you guys in on the details. I'm very excited!!!  new posts coming up as well!!:)

 Goodnight my fellow beauty lovers!

Nude On Nude

Yes... I'm making  a quick review on the competition. The competition to Urban Decays naked palette that is!   I know all about the craze over Urban Decays naked palette and how amazing it is, but I'm the kind of girl who always gives the underdog a chance.. in any situation:P. And honestly, I think this Nude on Nude palette by NYX puts up a good fight!

I absolutely LOVE the Champagne&Caviar palette from NYX. I can't live without it. This palette definitely reminds me of Champagne&Caviar which is a major plus. With Nude on Nude you can go from very natural to a smokey dramatic yet soft look with 20 eyeshadow shades. It's very versatile, leaving you a lot of room to play. Comes with 10 great lip colors in a slide out compartment that are smooth, pigmented, and compliment any eye look you create with the shadows. Definitely travel friendly too, you can just slip it into your carry on and off you go!!
Nude on Nude is worth your money and great for those curious makeup virgins who don't want to buy anything too crazy!;)

You can purchase this product at Ulta or for $25!

My Makeup Story

I came across classy dea blog and saw this awesome little questionnaire called my makeup story. I loved her post on it so I decided to do the same and share a little more info with you guys:) Here's mine:

How old were you when you started wearing makeup?

I was about 11 years old. My mom ordered this cute kit thing from J-14 magazine and it came with a poster of nsync and stickers, pencils and this little eyeshadow palette with really bright colors. It had this amazing vibrant blue eyeshadow and I was a little mesmerized by it. So I put it on and it just dramatically changed the way I looked and I thought it was so cool (it looked horrible) and I wore it to school, got so many compliments from all my friends and I felt so hip LOL. Then my mom picks me up from school and man was I in trouble!! When she saw my eyes all I saw was red in her face she was not happy. But from then on I knew I was in love.

♥ How did you get into makeup?
After experimenting with makeup for the first time I used to go and check out all the makeup in the grocery stores whenever I went with my parents shopping. I obviously never had any money because I was a kid but I always went to the makeup section and I was also subscribed to magazines like teen people, j-15, seventeen so I always saw ads for makeup brands and skincare products so I started educating myself without really knowing it. Then when I finally had money I started buying one thing at a time and built my own little makeup stash.

♥ What are some of your favourite brands?
Urban Decay, NYX, Cargo, Too faced, Costal Scents, Benefit, Smashbox, Maybelline, Rimmel London, Nars, Makeup forever, Lorac.

♥ What does make-up mean to you?
For me, makeup allows me to feel good about myself. It makes me feel confident and beautiful. It lets me express myself creatively. And it lets me do that to others. I love to make other people feel good about themselves. To enhance the beauty they already have. It's just so much fun. And it's never the same and always a challenge. I like that.

♥ If you could only wear 4 products on your face what would they be?
Concealer, primer, eyeliner, lip gloss.

♥ What is your favourite thing about makeup?

Being able to play with all sorts of colors, learning new techniques, seeing new makeup products. Painting a face.

♥ What do you think about drugstore makeup vs high end makeup?

I love drugstore brands. That's where you start from. I feel that drugstore brands can give you exactly what you want it's all in the way you apply them. Just like high end. Yes the high end brands may be more quality or last longer but that doesn't mean that all high end brands are the best not at all. And some drugstore brands might be crap it's true. But you have to play around and experiment which ones are the good and which ones aren't. At the end of the day it's all about the application and using the right product that gives you what you want.

♥ What is one tip of advice you can give to a beginner?

Start with some drugstore brands and play around, experiment with colors, go on blogs and youtube to search tutorials or tips, and use a primer!!! the great thing about makeup is if you don't like it you can just take it off and start over.

♥ What is one makeup trend you never understood?
Black lipliner and a thin line of eyebrow liner for eyebrows. Dear lord.

♥ What do you think of the Beauty Community on Youtube/Blogger?

I love it. I think it's wonderful. So helpful to know I can just go to youtube if I need a tip and search fellow makeup artists on there. And I get a lot of ideas from the beauty community and feels good to be apart of it now too.

♥ Who is your style icon?

Right now, Carrie Underwood and The Saturdays. But it changes.

Feel free to use this for your blog as well but don't forget to link me!:)

Oh just playing around....

This morning while I was watching Good Morning America, I saw this girl who had a beautiful copper colored eyeshadow on and I instantly wanted to duplicate that exact eye look. I usually wake up every morning not really knowing what kind of makeup I'm going to do unless it's an occasion where I know exactly what I'm wearing, what my hair is going to look like and so on. But today is a laid back kind of Friday and I'm going out to for dinner with my mom later so maybe I'll wear this look for her. Haha!!  I tried to remember exactly what her copper eye look looked like by the time I got to doing my makeup and here's what I came to:

I'm still trying to adjust my camera but I'm not getting the right setting that I want. I'm seriously considering getting a new camera with video so I can start my videos as well.. We'll see.  Below is the products I used to create this look.:

~Urban Decay Primer potion in Sin
~NYX single eyeshadow in E16 COPPER
~Coastal Scents Warm Palette darkest brown for contour color
~NYX Nude on Nude Palette light beige colors in matte and shimmer for highlight
~MAC Fluidline eyeliner
~Dura Lash false individual lashes in medium black
~The Falsies Volume Express mascara

What do you think?

I'm planning on getting some really bright funky colors from Sephora so I can play and do some crazy eye looks. If you have any suggestions on brands that carry great pigmented colors, drop me a line below!!!

Happy Friday!!!

Got Oily Skin?

Having an oily skin type can be annoying especially when it comes to wearing makeup.  But taking care of oily skin , much like any other skin type, can really show great improvements. Oily skin is characterized by excessive oil production and the follicle or pore size is larger, containing more oil. If you take a look at your face in the mirror and see that your pore size is visible or large over most of your face, then you may be an oily skin type.

With oily skin it is imperative that you cleanse and exfoliate more so than other skin types. But don't over do it. I've had a lot of  people with oily skin types tell me they wash their face or exfoliate 3 or 4 times a day just to "control" their excessive oil production. But in fact, they are making it much worse. Over cleansing and exfoliating can cause even more oil production by stripping the skins acid mantle and irritating it, throwing it off  balance. Big no no.

It's our job as estheticians to educate people on how to properly take care of their skin and help maintain it. With oily skin, proper exfoliation (2 to 4 times a week) and a water based hydrator will help keep oily skin clean and balanced. The up side of having oily skin is that it ages slowly due to the protection of oil secretion. So there is always an upside! Plus there are tons of products, both skincare and makeup, that help with oily skin. Water-based products ,foamy gel cleaners, astringent(used carefully, again no over doing it!), mattifying primers, water based moisturizers, and chemical or mechanical exfoliation.

Here are some great skincare products to try for oily skin:
